Sadly, the story of Appalachian Beat Systems will forever, it seems, be unfinished.
Early in February 2017, the Hook-Rook brothers--Cyril and Abram--and their companion Hans Glittel retreated back to their secluded woodland cabin following the release of their first compilation, "Pigeonheads!". On their first night back home, they invited friend Forrest "Forecast-K" Keynard to play a little jig on piano, which would eventually evolve into "Moon Scroll". Placed at the front of this song collection, as it is believed to be the oldest of these recordings.
Since that night, the Hook-Rook brothers, and their friend Hans, have never been seen again.
What follows is recovered from a simple white flash drive found in their home following their disappearance, spartanly labeled "ABSLP2 [SESSIONS]" in black sharpie. There were no signs of the siblings or their friend, and indeed, no signs that the trio had been there in some time. Two items were found in addition to the flash drive. Three abandoned latex bird masks, and a note, hand-written in all capital letters. Reproduced below in its entirety;
THIS WORLD IS NOT BEAUTIFUL,
WHICH ITSELF LENDS IT A SORT OF BEAUTY.
THIS PLANET IS BURNING,
YET RADIO WAVES MIGHT SAVE US YET.
HERE IS WHERE THE WORLD ENDS,
AND A NEW ONE BEGINS
